A Living Space in Motion

Nestled within the fabric of Barcelona’s Eixample district, the Éventail Apartment embraces a poetic dialogue between the past and the present. The architects approached the project as an exploration of rhythm and sequence, allowing the spatial layout to breathe with the same subtle dynamism as a fan being gently opened.

The central staircase acts as a luminous spine, connecting the home’s layered spatial rhythm

The apartment’s plan radiates from a central living area, where natural light acts as both a sculptural and emotional element. Each room fans outwards, carefully orchestrated to reveal distinct spatial experiences. This deliberate arrangement not only enhances functional flow but also evokes a sense of movement — as though the entire home is in a quiet state of unfolding.

A Palette of Calm Elegance

Cometa Architects has composed a material palette that embodies refinement and serenity. Soft hues of ivory and pale oak define the atmosphere, punctuated by muted accents of stone and bronze. These materials were chosen not for contrast but for conversation, forming a continuous visual and tactile language throughout the space.

Curved partitions and gentle transitions create a sense of fluidity, while custom-built cabinetry blends into the architecture, almost disappearing into the walls. The kitchen and dining zones merge effortlessly with the social areas, offering both intimacy and openness. Light reflects off smooth surfaces, tracing a delicate choreography across the space from dawn to dusk.

Design Rooted in Cultural Metaphor

The inspiration drawn from the Spanish hand fan is more than an aesthetic reference; it becomes a cultural metaphor for refinement, tradition, and human gesture. Just as a fan conceals and reveals, the apartment’s spatial layers alternate between privacy and openness.

In this sense, Éventail is not merely a home but a study in spatial storytelling. The architects transform everyday movement - walking, turning, opening a door - into a choreography that connects inhabitants with their surroundings in a subtle but profound way.

An Expression of Contemporary Sensibility

While the design pays homage to Barcelona’s architectural heritage, it remains distinctly contemporary in tone. There is a sense of timeless modernity that avoids extravagance, choosing instead to highlight proportion, tactility, and natural light.

Every detail, from the curvature of the ceiling to the framing of doorways, contributes to the apartment’s quiet sophistication. The project demonstrates how architecture can be both minimal and expressive, rational yet deeply human.
