Positioned on the banks of Victoria’s iconic Great Ocean Road, Fairhaven House is a carefully considered coastal residence that responds directly to its dramatic setting. Designed by LTD Architectural Design Studio in collaboration with DOOD Studio, the project explores how contemporary architecture can engage with exposure, movement, and the shifting moods of the ocean.

Entry paths transition from enclosure to coastal openness

The coastal environment presents both inspiration and challenge. Strong winds, salt laden air, and expansive views demand an architecture that is resilient yet refined. Fairhaven House addresses these conditions through a calm and grounded design approach. Rather than dominating the landscape, the house settles into it, allowing the natural surroundings to remain the primary focus.

Deck extends living, balancing comfort with elemental engagement

From the exterior, the architecture is composed and deliberate. Its form reads as protective, offering a sense of shelter against the coastal elements. This outer restraint contrasts with the interior experience, where spaces gradually open toward light and view. The transition from enclosure to openness becomes a defining spatial narrative of the house.

Internally, the layout prioritizes connection to the landscape while maintaining comfort and privacy. Living areas are oriented to capture long views across the coastline, while more intimate spaces are positioned to feel buffered and secure.
