Abstract

Today a countervailing movement is emerging: architects and clients are intentionally returning to artisanal processes - hand-formed concrete, lime plaster, bespoke joinery, woven bamboo, tile setting, and skilled masonry - to enrich architectural meaning, improve environmental performance, and support local economies. This journal examines the causes and consequences of that revival, traces how craft is being re-integrated into contemporary practice, and analyses global case studies that demonstrate craft’s power to create durable, place-rooted, and emotionally resonant architecture. Introduction: Why Craft Matters Again

2. Peter Zumthor - Stone, Tactility, and the Poetry of Making
