The landscape of Huizhou is a lush tapestry of rolling hills and dense greenery that often demands a pause from the urban pace. In this scenic context, HCCH Studio has avoided the traditional logic of the gazebo or the static bench. Instead, they have introduced the Resting Loop with Views Pavilion which is a structure that operates more like a frozen piece of calligraphy than a traditional building. It is an architectural intervention that seeks to capture the act of "lingering" within a single and unending geometric stroke.

The core of the project is the concept of the topological fold. The architects have designed a ribbon that winds through the site to create a variety of spatial conditions without ever breaking its continuity. At certain points, the ribbon sits flat against the earth to provide a stable path for walking. As it moves further into the site, the surface begins to tilt and curve upward to form backrests and deep seats. This allows visitors to lounge at various angles while they gaze toward the distant mountains.

Materiality is used to emphasize this sense of lightness and fluidity. The use of laminated timber allows the structure to achieve complex curvatures while maintaining a tactile and organic connection to the forest floor. The warm tones of the wood stand in sharp contrast to the surrounding greenery to make the pavilion appear like a sunlit thread woven into the woods. The structural thinness is achieved through a concealed steel core which allows the timber to cantilever dramatically over the hillside. This gives the visitor the sensation of floating above the canopy.

The experience of the pavilion is inherently non-linear. There is no prescribed entrance or exit because the loop invites a circular journey. One might start by walking along the outer edge of the ring before finding a pocket of shade provided by the overhead curve of the same structure. The geometry creates a series of "visual apertures" that frame the Huizhou landscape in unexpected ways. By controlling the height and pitch of the loop, HCCH Studio directs the eye toward specific peaks or glimpses of water to turn the act of resting into a curated cinematic experience.

Social interaction is also a key driver for the design. The circular nature of the pavilion naturally draws people toward the center to create an informal "outdoor room" where strangers can gather or children can play. The interior of the loop is often filled with a neutral material like gravel or grass which provides a safe and soft ground for activities. It is a space that encourages community without the need for walls or enclosures. The architecture acts as a gentle suggestion for social gathering rather than a rigid requirement.

Sustainability is addressed through the low impact of the foundation system. The pavilion is anchored to the ground at minimal points to preserve the root systems of the existing trees. This "light touch" approach ensures that the ecosystem remains undisturbed while providing a high quality public amenity. The use of timber as a primary material further reduces the embodied carbon of the installation because it serves as a carbon sink throughout its lifespan.
