In Sydney’s Surry Hills, Australian fashion brand Alémais has unveiled a new headquarters that feels less like a workplace and more like a portal into another universe. Designed by YSG Studio, the 491-square-metre office is imagined as a “galaxy of limitless imagination,” where fashion, folklore, and cosmic references converge in an environment that’s both playful and practical.
Mythology Meets Modern Workspace
The design references Alémais’ bold print collaborations with artists and illustrators, incorporating influences from mythological kingdoms, folklore, and celestial landscapes. YSG director Yasmine Ghoniem - who shares Middle Eastern heritage with Alémais founder Lesleigh Jermanus - infused the interiors with mystical and divine elements. Highlights include a custom “eye” dining table with pastel-painted details, symbolic sculptures, and a mosaic mural of mythical flora and fauna at the entrance.

A Flexible Creative Hub
The floor plan includes communal work zones, two private offices, and a multifunctional kitchen that doubles as a meeting space. A central design nucleus places pattern-making, archival storage, and creative brainstorming within easy reach, while in-built banquettes and a lounge-like corner offer spaces for collaboration and reflection. To support the brand’s evolving needs, mobile cork pin boards, rolling drawer units, and custom display tools allow teams to reconfigure the space as inspiration strikes.

Immersive Materiality and Colour
The interiors are defined by tactile richness - Calacatta Viola marble, shell inlay, palm reed, velvet, bronze, and glass mosaics - alongside bold colour accents in mint, plum, and deep tribal tones. These layers of texture create an environment that balances polished sophistication with creative energy.

Celestial Touches
Perhaps the most striking elements are the custom fibreglass globe lights, designed by YSG and fabricated by Anomolous. Suspended throughout the office, their speckled lunar finishes recall planets and constellations, drawing the ceiling closer to human scale while setting a mood of cosmic wonder. Other whimsical details - starfish cabinet handles, a snake-shaped door pull, and eye motifs - extend the celestial and mythical narrative.

By merging craftsmanship, storytelling, and practical function, YSG has created an office that reflects Alémais’ identity as a brand rooted in artistry and exploration. It’s a place where design ideas can flourish - whether around a shimmering mosaic wall, beneath a canopy of planetary lights, or in the intimate corners designed for collaboration.
As Ghoniem notes, “They make you feel like you’ve entered a galaxy of limitless imagination from the moment you arrive.”
